Blogging in Schools

The term blog – short for weblog – refers to an online personal website or diary. This technology is becoming an increasingly popular way of communicating with the online community, and it is reported that a new blog is created every second!

One of the schools that have been quick and committed in adopting such technology as part of its ICT work is Hangleton Junior School in Hove, near Brighton, in East Sussex.

Children as young as seven have been given the opportunity to create their own blogs, enabling them to become comfortable and proficient in using the Internet and preparing them for the integration of IT into their routine. It also offers children a creative outlet, as they are free to express themselves in their own words and customise their weblogs in terms of presentation.

The integration of ICT at Hangleton Junior has been so innovative that in 2004, the school was nominated for a prestigious New Statesman New Media Award.
