Company history

Regent’s University London has a history that stretches back more than 170 years through the institutions that occupied its Regent’s Park campus. The site was originally developed for Bedford College, which was founded in 1849 by Elizabeth Jesser Reid and became the first higher education institution for women in the United Kingdom. Bedford College moved to Regent’s Park in 1911.

The university’s modern institutional history developed through the merger of several educational institutions. In 2006, Regent’s College was formed through the merger of the institution with the European Business School London and Webster Graduate School. The college subsequently expanded its academic offering, including the introduction of courses in drama, film and media in 2010 and fashion and design in 2013.

In 2012, Regent’s College was granted taught-degree awarding powers. In 2013, it was awarded university status and became Regent’s University London.

A further significant development took place in 2020, when Regent’s University London became part of Galileo Global Education, an international higher education group. This created opportunities for collaboration with institutions across areas including applied arts, fashion, design, technology, business and medicine.

Today, Regent’s continues to develop its academic portfolio around areas such as business, creative industries, technology, finance, psychology and international studies, while maintaining its emphasis on international education, personal development and links with industry.
