UK Government initiative Every Child Matters was established in 2003 to meet the welfare needs of children and young adults under the age of 19.
It is supported by the Children’s Act 2004.
The overall goal is that irrespective of social background or individual circumstances, every child should:
Be Healthy
Stay Safe
Enjoy and Achieve
Make a Positive Contribution
Achieve Economic Well-Being
Each objective above has its own detailed goal framework, requiring multi-agency partnerships to deliver success.
Areas of focus include Youth Justice; Education, Training and Employment; Parents, Carers and Families; Early Years and Child Care; Culture, Sport and Play; Children’s and Young People’s Health; Youth Matters; Social Care, Welfare and Protection.
